You do not need to spend money in order for the game to be fun and to progress quickly.
Updated: my issue resolved itself.Thank God.because this is one of the best merge games available now! I’ve literally spent hours playing many merge games and this one has little aspects beyond merging that can hold my attention much longer than other merge games.
